Helmut Brugman (1944-2008) 

 

Helmut Brugman, a Washington Township Advisory Board Member and steadfast supporter of the Marion County Republican Party, passed away Monday. Helmut served the party as Assistant Township Chairman, Ward Chairman, and Precinct Committeeman. We extend our deepest condolences to Helmut's family and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Helmut H Brugman 63, was born into this life August 9, 1944, in Indianapolis and born into eternal life June 16, 2008. His parents were Helmut and Madeline (Bock) Brugman. Helmut was passionate about his family, service to God, and politics. He blessed everyone around him with his wit, incredible strength of character, and immeasurable love towards his family. His service to the Republican Party included serving as precinct committeeman, ward chairman and assistant township chairman. He was awarded Washington Township Republican of the Year in 2005 and was an elected member of the Washington Township Advisory Board. Helmut was an active member of the Latvian Lutheran Church of Indianapolis and served on the first Via de Cristo retreat team and first EEMN Bible camp held in Latvia. He was supportive of the Latvian community activities in Indianapolis. Helmut was a graduate of Shortridge High School. He received a B.S. in Chemistry from Indiana University where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He earned his M.B.A. from Butler University. He founded SurTech Corporation in 1990, and his papers on water treatment and corrosion technology have been published in several professional journals. Helmut is survived by his wife of 40 years, Aija (Vinters) Brugman; his daughters Dzintra (Marc) Tuttle, Heidi (Jose) Martinez, Ingi (Brendan) Jennings and his son Helmut (Maggie) Brugman; and his seven grandchildren, Jose, Marissa, Skaidrite, Larisa, Bridget, Aija and Aidan. He is preceded in death by his parents and his aunt, Mary Bock. Memorial contributions may be made to the Latvian Lutheran Church of Indianapolis and Right to Life of Indianapolis.
