MARION COUNTY GOP STATEMENT ON VOTER RESIDENCY

October 3, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS--Marion County Republican Party Chairman Tom John, addressing and clarifying statements from a recent news article, issued the following statement on potential challenges of voters with foreclosure issues:

"Contrary to what Mr. Treacy claims, our party will not challenge anyone based on a foreclosure notice or list.  We had no plans to challenge based on this information and we will not.  Republicans have always encouraged every person qualified to vote in Marion County to do so.  Unfortunately , it appears that my counterpart has chosen to attempt to incite an issue where there is none and suggest voter intimidation is at play.  This is the sad politics of usual we have grown to expect from Mr. Treacy.  We will continue our efforts to ensure that our message of Republican responsibility and reform is carried to all voters (including the ones Mr. Treacy claims are "his").  We will then endeavor to encourage voting by all qualified voters and a fair election.  Mr. Treacy's comments are once again a ridiculous attempt to fabricate an emotional issue where there is none, and to distract from the real issues of the campaigns."
