Christine Scales

Christine Scales is a City-County Councillor representing District 4, which covers the geographical area from 96th Street to 38th Street and from Keystone to Emerson Avenue. She is serving her first Council term. Christine was born in Montreal, Canada to German immigrant parents who eventually moved to the United States. She became a naturalized citizen and spent most of her youth in Munster, Indiana, located in the northwest corner of the state and graduated from Munster High School. Christine attended Indiana University, Bloomington on a full academic scholarship and received a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in both German and Telecommunications. She was awarded a postgraduate grant to study at the Free University of Berlin. Christine has worked in public relations, sales, and spent several years as a substitute teacher at the high school level. She and her husband Richard are the parents of three sons. Andrew is in his final year of studies at Princeton Theological Seminary. William, a graduate of Washington University is seeking an advanced degree, and Joseph, is a junior studying at Vanderbilt University. Christine began her political career as a campaign volunteer, precinct and ward chairman, and as a member of the Washington Township Board. Christine’s years of service in urban ministries as a member of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church cultivated a desire to serve through political means, those who are struggling economically, who are not mainstream, and who need help to realize their potential and their best within the community. Christine has received recognition for her Council service to the community by such organizations as the Greater Allisonville Community Council, The Coalition of Northeast Neighborhoods, and was named a Forest Manor Multi Service Center Award winner. |
