INDIANAPOLIS – At a time of escalating crime and budget issues, Mayor Joe Hogsett is helping out his Democrat buddy at taxpayer expense. He hired a former Democrat mayor of Lawrence, under fire for mismanagement from the State Board of Accounts, to work for a city agency. He was Mayor of Lawrence from 2012-2016, and he was defeated by Republican Steve Collier in 2015. You can read about more about the audit findings below: "...The former mayor, over that two-year period, overspent 11 different line-item budget categories by nearly $6 million." "State auditors chided the administrator for unauthorized transfer of water utility monies to pay the mayor's nephew's salary and general city expenses, and for its failure to remit even a single dime of sales taxes to the state." - State Audit Questions Former Lawrence Mayor's Management, Overspending - rtv6 "The state audit, which covers the period of 2013-2014, highlighted fundamental failings of the Jessup administration's handling of city finances." - Ex-Lawrence Mayor Takes Job with the City of Indianapolis - rtv6 Joey Fox, Executive Director of the Marion County Republican Central Committee, said, "The Mayor should be focused on addressing our city's problems, not giving away jobs to officials who squander taxpayer money. The Mayor can hire his friends if he wants, but might we suggest he set up banking alerts on his phone for any funds Jessup might touch?"
